In the heart of Singapore’s Casa Sarina, a 1,440 sq ft condominium has undergone a soul-stirring transformation. Designed by Harshita Agarwal, Casa Bella is a poignant departure from the apartment's past life. What was once a closed-off residence for an elderly couple is now a fluid, sun-kissed haven for a young Indian family of four and their spirited dog.
The Ideology: Restraint as a Virtue
At a time when maximalism often competes with sterile minimalism, Harshita Agarwal chooses a third path: Restraint. The design intent was to create a home that doesn’t demand your attention but rather earns it through subtle transitions and material honesty. The palette is a sophisticated wash of greige and warm brown tones, acting as a silent canvas for the family’s daily life.

"It is a home where design does not demand attention, but reveals itself slowly through proportion, materiality, and detail."
Spatial Poetry: The Heart of the Home
For an Indian household, the kitchen is more than a utility; it is a pulse. Agarwal’s most significant architectural intervention involved knocking down utility walls to absorb neglected square footage. The result is a generous, open-plan kitchen that breathes.
The Aesthetic: Grey Shaker-style cabinetry provides a timeless structure, while patterned floor tiles introduce a rhythmic movement that grounds the airy space.

The Details: Subtle brass hardware glints against the matte surfaces, offering a "quiet luxury" that feels intentional rather than ornamental.

"By knocking down utility walls, we created a generous, open kitchen that feels both functional and visually light, the true heart of the home."
Rhythm and Form: The Power of the Arch
Visual continuity in Casa Bella is achieved through a recurring motif: the Arch. From built-in niches to wall junctions and custom cabinetry, these softened edges do more than just guide the eye. They provide a psychological sense of safety and intuition, crucial for a home shared with a young child and a pet. In the master bedroom, this language evolves with the introduction of rattan-paneled wardrobes: a tactile nod to natural materiality that feels both grounded and refined.

A Dialogue of Texture
While the shell of the home is disciplined, the spirit is found in the textures.

Artisanal Accents: Hand-sourced pendant lights from Bali hang above the dining area, their beaded silhouettes casting intricate shadows that contrast with the clean lines of the chevron-patterned wooden table.

Personalized Vibrancy: The daughter’s room, Samaira’s sanctuary, is a joyful explosion of soft pinks and rainbows, proving that the home’s neutral foundation is robust enough to support bursts of pure, unadulterated color.
"The design intent was rooted in simplicity, a serene, grounded environment designed to evolve gracefully over time."
The Verdict

Casa Bella is ultimately a study in how a home can evolve. It is not a static showroom; it is an environment designed to age gracefully.

Through thoughtful child-friendly planning and a deep respect for light and proportion, Harshita Agarwal has crafted more than an apartment, she has curated a serene, grounded backdrop for a family’s most precious memories.
