In the heart of Kanker, Chhattisgarh, Founder and Principal Designer Nidhi Warlyani of SS Design Studio has completed a residential project that serves as a profound dialogue between scale and soul. Aptly titled ‘Sukoon’, this 6,000-square-foot sanctuary is a masterclass in neoclassical revivalism, tailored for the sensibilities of a modern Indian family.
The Ideation: A Symphony in White and Gold
The design journey of Sukoon began with a clear mandate: to create a home that felt like a permanent retreat from the outside world. The name itself, meaning "peace", acted as the North Star for the material palette. Nidhi Warlyani opted for a monochromatic base of ivory and cream, using gold not as a flashy additive, but as a structural highlight that traces the lines of the architecture.
Zonal Deep-Dive: The Grand Atrium
The experience of Sukoon is defined by its verticality. Upon entering, the eye is immediately drawn to the symmetrical double staircase, a feature that evokes the grandeur of classical European estates.
The Ascent: The white steps are punctuated by intricate black metal balustrades, providing a rhythmic contrast to the light-drenched hall.
The Sky-Frame: Overhead, the ceiling isn't just a cover; it’s an installation. A custom-patterned gold and white skylight acts as a natural sun-dial, shifting the mood of the lobby as the day progresses.
The Grounding: To anchor this soaring volume, the floor features a sprawling "Tree of Life" marble inlay. This organic, flowing motif serves as a soft counterpoint to the rigid, formal lines of the neoclassical columns.
The Material Language: From Public to Private
As one moves deeper into the home, the design shifts from grand architectural statements to tactile, sensory experiences.
The Living Quarters: In the formal seating areas, SS Design Studio introduces a rich "Jewel Tone" narrative. Deep teal and burgundy velvet sofas with tufted detailing provide the necessary weight to the airy rooms.

Bespoke Craftsmanship: One cannot overlook the doors,
massive, white double-entry points featuring circular relief carvings and gold-leaf filigree. These serve as a recurring motif, ensuring that the transition between rooms feels like a curated event.

The Dining Experience: The dining room continues the regal theme, featuring high-backed chairs with gold-accented frames and a table that mirrors the intricate boiserie found on the surrounding walls.

Design Intelligence: Lighting & Volume
A project of this scale often risks feeling cold. Nidhi Warlyani mitigated this through layered luminosity. By combining the diffuse light of the skylight with warm-toned recessed LEDs and statement crystal chandeliers, the studio created a "glow" effect. This ensures that even at night, the white walls feel soft and welcoming rather than stark.
The Editorial Verdict
Sukoon is a testament to the fact that grand interiors don’t have to be loud. Through the disciplined use of symmetry, a refined color story, and a deep respect for classical motifs, SS Design Studio has crafted a residence that is both a visual spectacle and a quiet haven.
